OSi and EPA release Ireland’s rivers and catchment datasets

The OSi and EPA have announced that 1:50,000 scale digital rivers, lakes and catchments dataset (all originally based on OSi source data and requiring a license to obtain and utilise the datasets), have been released as Open Data with a CC-By license.

The EPA have stated that the rivers and lakes was one of their top requested datasets on their IRLOGI 2014 Space and Place Awards winning GeoPortal. It is envisaged that releasing this data under an open license will allow more companies, researchers and students to utilise and build the data into existing research and applications.

The datasets are available to download under the Water/Water Framework Direction section at: gis.epa.ie/GetData/Download and is also accessible as a WMS at: http://gis.epa.ie/geoserver/wms?request=GetCapabilities&version=1.3.0
